Skip the Guesswork—Meet Your New Teacher

Hi, I'm Kalie, and I've been teaching swimming for over 20 years.

Working with children and families has always been at the heart of what I do. Alongside being a qualified swimming teacher, I am also a qualified Open Water Swimming Coach, Yoga Teacher, and Baby Massage Teacher. I currently work within a school as a Pupil Support Assistant, supporting children in their learning and development, whilst also being a mental health facilitator.

Over the past two decades, I have been passionate about continually developing my knowledge and skills. I have travelled extensively throughout the country attending a wide range of swimming and educational training courses, workshops, and CPD opportunities. This has allowed me to explore a variety of teaching approaches and learning styles, helping me create lessons that are truly tailored to the individual.

One area of particular interest has been the relationship between movement, body awareness, and learning. I have studied teaching techniques influenced by the Alexander Technique, known within the swimming world through the SHAW Method, which focuses on developing a deeper understanding of body movement, balance, and ease in the water.

However, I don't just teach swimming—I live it too. I have been a keen open water swimmer for over 15 years, taking part in numerous open water events and challenges, including successfully completing a Channel Relay Swim from England to France. My own experiences in the water have deepened my appreciation for the physical, mental, and emotional benefits that swimming can bring. I am especially passionate about outdoor swimming and the positive impact it can have on health, wellbeing, confidence, and connection with nature.

In the pool, I am often told that I bring a huge amount of patience, support, and understanding to my lessons. I believe that every swimmer learns differently, which is why I use a guided discovery approach to teaching. Rather than simply instructing swimmers what to do, I help them explore, understand, and develop a genuine connection with their breath, body, and the water around them.

My focus is on building confidence both in and under the water, creating a safe and supportive environment where swimmers can progress at their own pace. Whether teaching babies, children, adults, nervous swimmers, or open water enthusiasts, my aim is to help every individual feel comfortable, capable, and empowered in the water.

Swimming is more than a skill—it's an opportunity to build confidence, develop self-awareness, and create a lifelong connection with the water. 🌊💙
